Shake Up Jacob – Congratulations

Shake Up Jacob – Congratulations

NEWTON (June 15, 2010) – After winning his heat race in convincing fashion, the seventeen year old Jacob Ossentfort received news from Black Hills Speedway officials that the Friday night main events were being cancelled due to weather, so it was off to Great Falls, Montana for the weekend. The Ossenfort Racing team made their way West to compete in a two-day American Sprint Car Series (ASCS) Northwest Region event at Electric City Speedway, Saturday and Sunday evening.
On Saturday, Jacob had some time to get used to running on a short track again as they spent most of their hot laps packing the track in. “I was glad for a few laps to get a feel of the track. I’d compare this track to something like a flat Huset’s Speedway , so it took some getting used to.” Jacob had to say of his hot lap session.
Jacob started seventh in his heat and they had the car running perfectly, passing four cars right away on the first lap. Lap two brought out a little congestion and Jacob dove to the bottom of the track to sneak by, but some impatience caused the two cars to make some contact. “I got impatient and made room where there wasn’t much room to be made. He hit my right front tire and I spun out.” Jacob said of the incident. On the restart Jacob was back in ninth but the track conditions made it tough to pass. He made is way back to a seventh place finish. “By the end of the race I realized just how impatient I got. This incident was going to bother me for the rest of the night.”
Jacob made it to the B-Main starting in the ninth position. As the night wore on the track conditions didn’t make it much easier to pass. The B-Main took the top two finishers as transfer spots to the A-Main. Jacob ended his evening with a fourth place finish.
Sunday evening turned out a little better for the Ossenfort Racing team. “The car was setup perfectly Saturday night, so we had a place to start.” Jacob started ninth in his heat and this time he played the game with patience. He made it from ninth to a finishing position of fifth. It was all about passing points and this gave him enough to make the A-Main event.
Jacob’s goal for the main event was to compete for the ASCS Hard Charger Award. Passing points are even more important this go-round. “We tightened up the car hoping to stay ahead of the track.” Jacobs said. He had a great run picking cars off one by one, moving himself up to tenth. “The track was taking rubber and tightening up to fit the car with a perfect match and I was able to put the car wherever I wanted it, making a pass possible wherever I stuck the car. With four laps to go there was wreck, bad enough for a red flag.” Once back out on the track, Jacob took the first corner with confidence in his #99J sprint car. The red flag had given the track just enough time to breathe, cooling it down. “I just skated up the track, the car was loose but I wasn’t sure if it was just the run I got on the corner or the car itself. I took the next corner, to make a pass and I was back to the top of the track again. The red flag killed us. Looking back on it, I’m not even sure what kind of setup would have solved it.” Jacob said of the main event. The Ossenfort Racing team ended the night in sixteenth. “The competition this weekend was just ridiculous! The ASCS brought 38 cars. That’s what makes a race. We had a great time and notched in another learning experience.” Jacob had to say of the weekend.

This weekend you will find Jacob in Grand Forks , North Dakota at River Cities Speedway, back behind the wheel of his Knology #99J 410, competing with the World of Outlaw Series. “This is one of the closest World of Outlaw events to us, so we’re going to give it our best shot. It’s going to be a shot in the dark, as this will be our first time with the World of Outlaws but I’m really pumped about. It’s going to be a great show!” Jacob had to say of the upcoming event.
