Masse Battles Challenges at Electric City During Montana Round Up

Masse Battles Challenges at Electric City During Montana Round Up

Inside Line Promotions – GREAT FALLS, Mont. (Sept. 4, 2019) – Cody Masse battled adversity and overcame challenges during three nights of racing at the 26th annual Montana Round Up hosted by Electric City Speedway last weekend.

“It wasn’t our best weekend overall, but we persevered through adversity, which is kind of what this whole year has been about,” he said. “We did a good job of keeping the car on the track all three nights and made it through the weekend, which is something that hasn’t happened in a while. While our results weren’t the best, that was mostly beyond our control and we were happy to finally have a full weekend at the track.”

The weekend began with a two-hour rain delay on Friday. That presented less than ideal track conditions when Masse lined up 10th in the night’s NSA Series main event.

“The field got stacked up in front of me,” he said. “In the accordion, I got over a wheel and got upside down before landing upright. Fortunately, about the only things wrong with the car were a crushed top wing and a flat left rear tire. My crew was able to get the car fixed and I rejoined the race.

“I’m really proud of my crew. Just like they have all year, they didn’t give up and got us going again. I also appreciate the help of the other crews to get us back into the race.”

In spite of racing conservatively, Masse managed to advance from the back to finish 10th after his crash.

“I didn’t want to take a chance of crashing again, but we were still able to get a top-10 finish after being upside down on the opening lap,” he said. “We were pretty happy with that.”

Saturday found Masse once again lining up for the feature in the 10th starting spot.

“With the previous night still fresh in my mind, I decided to take it a little easier on the opening lap,” he said. “Of course, nothing happened this time and I lost a couple of spots. But then the car started working really well on the top of the track and I was able to move forward. I was up to about seventh with around four laps to go when I felt a vibration and the car quit. I figured the motor blew since this was the 36th night on it. But we were relieved to find out it was just a u-joint.”

Masse was credited with a 17th-place result following the DNF. With repairs made, Masse rolled off 12th for the event’s finale on Sunday.

“I went to the top of the track, but it wasn’t as fast as it was on the previous night and I lost some spots,” he said. “Then I moved to the bottom and was able to pass some cars until a caution with about seven laps to go. On the restart, I didn’t have any grip and dropped back a bit and finished 13th.”

Masse is hoping to finish the season on a high note this Friday and Saturday at Castrol Raceway in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, with the NSA Series.
