Chris Dunn, Mickey Miesmer, Cody Ryan, Kody Harvie & Brice Miesmer xFriday night started off in a somber mood as drivers and fans remembered one of their own. Fran Flesch was a long time fan that passed away on July 19, 2014. Chris Dunn, Mickey Miesmer, Cody Ryan, Kody Harvie and Brice Miesmer brought out cars from each class and honored Fran with parade laps. Fran wasn’t just well known in our local community but surrounding tracks. If there was a race nearby he would do his best to be there. Each year as our drivers travelled to the WISSOTA 100 in Huron, South Dakota Fran and his wife Mary would make the trip and provide a home cooked feast for everyone. Well known for his racing stories one would always make the time to listen to a few.
Racing began with the single WISSOTA Street Stock heat. Ron Mattern claimed the heat. In the feature, Troy Weninger spun in turn four with five laps complete. Restarting in the back Weninger worked his way up through the field. Back in the front Weninger took home another victory for 2014. Going into the last month of racing Mattern is just 14 points ahead of Brice Miesmer for the track championship.
Caution free heats greeted the WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds. Zach Olson, Kory Wermling, and Josh Olsen were the victors. However, the feature wasn’t caution free. O the first lap a caution brought out by John Price had cars stacking up in the three/four corner. Pat Liscum used up his two cautions within the first four laps sending his 28x to the pits. A final caution with 11 laps complete flew. Three cars were involved. In the meantime, there was a battle at the front of the field. Wermling, Olson and Paul Leach kept close to each other in the final laps. Leach eventually grabbed the lead from Wermling to gain the victory. Leach’s starting position was thirteenth. Wermling is maintaining a 23 point lead over Olson with just a few races left in the 2014 season.
Pacer and Curt Popham were victorious in the WISSOTA Super Stock heat races. In the feature, the brothers battled for the lead position. Pacer finally gained a little ground on Curt and took his blue 32 to victory lane. With this victory Pacer gained some precious track points to current leader Casey Steffenson. Steffenson has just a 9 point lead over Pacer with Curt 22 points behind.
Mark Wermling and Joey Price were victorious in the IMCA Modified heats. A spin on lap one by Pat Wallace collected points leader Mark Wermling. He had to pit for repairs. Two cautions later Wermling returned to the track 4 laps down. Leading the majority of the event Joey Price brought home a sweet victory. This victory fell on the eve of the one year anniversary of the loss of long time family friend Nathan “Ogie” Ogren.
