June 27, 2014 – With storm clouds looming Electric City Speedway started of their night with a series of heat races. However, in the middle of the heats Mother Nature decided the track wasn’t wet enough and dropped enough rain to cause the racing action to stall. After an hour and a half racing resumed and the track was able to get a full night’s racing in.
In the WISSOTA Street Stock heat Ron Mattern claimed the victory. Troy Weninger got caught up in Frank Pearson’s spin and was disabled for the heat races. The feature found Kelan Kropp starting on the pole. Ron Mattern went out with a flat tire and though he rejoined the track he did so under green flag conditions and was sent to the pits for entering under green. Weninger made the necessary repairs to his car but lost a radiator hose and was unable to continue. Meanwhile, up front Bill Handle was leading the race. After the restart for Weninger a caution was called for debris in turn two. When racing resumed Handel lost the lead to Brice Miesmer. Kropp suffered damage to his car after hitting the backstretch wall. Frank Pearson went to the back for causing the caution on Lap 16. Holding off Kyle Jarvey and Taylor Falkenhagen, Miesmer claimed his second victory for the season.
The WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds took their turn at the track. Kory Wermling and Zach Olson were the heat victors. In the feature, two cautions for John Price had him sent to the pits for the remainder of the event. Zach Olson, Paul Leach and Kory Wermling battled for position at the front of the field. A caution for Jeremy Ivie had the field bunching back up for the final restart on lap 18. Wermling, who had worked his way up from a seventh starting position took advantage of the final caution to finish at the top of the class.
The rain was beginning to fall as the WISSOTA Street Stocks took to their heats. After a few laps track officials sent the drivers to their pits to wait out the rain. After the rain stopped and packing resumed Pat LaMere lost a driveline. When the drivers were able to get their first heat restarted Casey Steffenson worked his way up for the victory. Pacer Popham took the second heat. In the feature, Joey Price took an early lead. A red flag was thrown after Charlie Crouch impacted hard with the grandstand wall coming out of turn four. The driver was ok but his car suffered major damage. Steffenson and Pacer Popham battled for second place for most of the remaining laps keeping Price in their sights. On the final lap, Price went a little two sideways and Steffenson capitalized. At the flag stand Steffenson managed to finish a car just ahead of Price and Pacer Popham for the victory.
Caution free was the motto for the IMCA Modifieds. Mark Wermling and Gary Hill won in their heat races. In the feature, Marty Harvie shot out front to take the early lead. There was no looking back for Harvie. Wermling was unable to catch Harvie. Fans welcomed Harvie back to victory lane after a long dry spell for the driver.
UPCOMING EVENTS: July 3rd and July 4th the Fireball Special. The WISSOTA Street Stocks, Midwest Modifieds, Super Stocks and IMCA Modifieds will be on track for two nights of racing action. Friday, July 4, 2014 the regular racing schedule may be delayed due to the City’s Fireworks display as is tradition the track will stop racing so fans can view the fireworks show. The speedway is by far the best location in the city to view fireworks as it has a panoramic view of the city.
