Joe Ramaker 6 21ASCS Frontier Region Shootout at Electric City Speedway
By Vikki Higginbotham
Fans were filling the stands, drivers were ready for a night of racing, but Mother Nature had other plans Friday night as night one of a two night event was about to take place at Electric City Speedway. With the heat races just beginning the skies let loose with torrential rains causing the speedway to delcare a rained out event. Everyone had to return on Saturday evening if they wanted to see some racing action.
The WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds took to the track first running two heats. Jerry Sangrey Jr. and Zach Olson were deemed the winners. A caution filled feature had Olson fighting off Kory Wermling and Paul Leach for the lead. When the fifth caution flew with five laps to go, Wermling saw an opportunity to get around Olson and capture the checkered flag.
The ASCS Sprints ran second and boasted four heats of drivers. Paxton Lambrecht, Andy Jacobson, Joe Ramaker and TJ Hartman guaranteed their slots in the feature with heat victories. A consolation main had to be run to fill the field of twenty-one. Damon McCune, Leroy Brush, Cody Masse, Shane Ainscough and Cliff Nelson made the cut. Joe Ramaker showed his strength once again and found himself in Victory Lane.
Though Ron Mattern captured the Heat win in the WISSOTA Street Stock, Troy Weninger was having nothing of the sort. Weninger worked his way through the field to earn his third victory in 2014.
The IMCA Modifieds gathered in two heats for their event with Paul Leach and Mark Wermling victorious. A single caution in the feature had Stewart Hayward losing a drive line and out of the race. A battle between Gary Hill and Wermling ensued through the final lap. With one last attempt in turn two to get around Hill, Wermling made a bold move that had him checking up down the backstretch. Hill went on to win the feature.
During intermission Aaron Liscum, Dana Lerum, Dayton Liscum, Ian Myers and Tori LaPierre of the Mountain Country Quarter Midgets ran an exhibition race in front of a packed crowd. Myers took an early lead and kept his position through to the checkers.
