May 30, 2014 – This past weekend was graduation weekend in Great Falls, Montana. Starting the weekend off was some exciting racing at Electric City Speedway and some fun for the kids during intermission. Kids were given a bag of dirt with various prizes and three lucky children went home with a little cash.
With Mikey Johnson graduating from C.M. Russell High School on Saturday and Kory Wermling from Great Falls High School Sunday these guys had a very busy weekend. Due to a blown motor the week before Johnson was unable to race in Friday’s events but was at the track to support his dad running in the WISSOTA Midwest Modified class. Wermling started his weekend off with a clean sweep capturing both his heat and feature. Congratulations to both our graduates.
The WISSOTA Street Stocks started the evening with their heat race. During the first heat three separate spins had drivers running a few restarts. Ron Mattern came out on as the victor in the heat. In the feature Brice Miesmer took an early lead and battled with Troy Weninger and Mattern for most of the race. Once the white flag flew it was a mad dash to the checkers. Weninger kept the pressure on Miesmer all the way through turn four. Miesmer captured his first career feature win.
Kory Wermling and Jeramy Myers took the WISSOTA Midwest Modified heat races. During the feature Zach Olson took an early lead in the feature. Kory Wermling came from the eighth starting position to battle with Olson. Wermling was successful in his pass on Olson and captured his second feature win of the season.
In the two WISSOTA Super Stock heats Casey Steffenson and Sharid Lee were victorious. During the feature event Steffenson took a strong lead. Sweeping his way to his second victory in as many weeks Steffenson’s strong run showed he will be a contender for the championship for yet another season.
Joey Price and Mark Wermling were the heat winners for the IMCA Modifieds. A battle ensued in the feature between Price and Wermling early. Price suffered some damage that took him out of the race. Wermling then had a battle with Gary Hill. The lead exchanged hands and Hill became the new leader. After a restart Jeremy Sorenson and Wermling had a close encounter that then resulted with Sorenson going around on the backstretch and Wermling starting in the back of the pack. Gaining ground with only four laps to go Wermling was unable to make it to the front of the field to leader Gary Hill. Hill grabbed his second IMCA feature victory of the season.
